Conventionally, the gambling industry can be correlated with the continents, the main difference of which is the ethnic group, legislation, and culture as a whole.
As for Latin America, Peru is today the foremost jurisdiction for online gambling there. Here, online gambling is fully regulated at the federal level.
Recently Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) announced the continuation of work on a bill that is aimed at the legalization of online sports betting and online gambling.
As noted in a press release issued by the ministry this week, the developers of the document are currently consulting with companies aimed at legal work in this area of the gambling business. All proposals received from them will be carefully analyzed.
“We want to emphasize that the central issue of the consultations is the creation of adequate regulation of online gambling and online sports betting in Peru,” the ministry said in a statement.
Mincetur also noted that after the amendments, the bill will be submitted to Congress.
In addition, the ministry informed that so far no agreement has been reached with the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) on blocking the sites of illegal online operators.
It should be reminded that earlier the head of the Peruvian Gambling Agency, Manuel San Roman Benavente, said that the regulator had already completed the discussion of the taxation scheme of operators in the framework of the future regulatory framework.
“The tax rate for online casinos and online betting has already been set at 12% of net profit. In addition, each rate will be taxed with an excise tax of 1%. This is a proposal that we will submit to Congress,” Benavente said.
According to him, in the near future, the document will be considered by congressional committees on trade and economy. If approved, the bill will be discussed by the Congress of Peru.
